Joan Collins Carey has served on the Los Angeles SIGGRAPH Chapter's executive board since 1981 and Chaired the group for six years. She is willing to serve as Vice Chair to support the incoming newly-electeds for the LA ACM SIGGRAPH Executive Council. Joan studied for her Masters in Computer Graphics at UCLA and was John Whitney Sr's TA. She created her first computer animated sequence for an OmniMax film, "The Magic Egg," in 1984. She became the Director for Programming and Graphics for Laser Media, and created laser animation for Stone Mountain Park Georgia, and Disney World's EPCOT Center, the two largest laser graphics displays in the world. Also laser light displays for motion pictures, most major concerts, the 1984 Olympic Closing Ceremonies, and Steve Wosniak's "Us Festival". Joan was Robert Abel's first 3D software Sales Manager. Clients included: Ford Motors, Martin Marietta, TRW, Rick Zettner, Disney, Tiffany, Jaguar, BMW, etc. Then, Joan was Sidley-Wright's Executive Producer. They created the first feature pipeline for "digital ink and paint" for Bill Kroyer's, "Fern Gulley, the Last Rain Forest." Most of their income came from commercials with Dreamquest in Simi Valley. Next was supervision on "Judge Dredd" for Cinergi, in 1995. Then, "The Ghost and the Darkness" for Sony. Followed by nine-months of R&D for "Stuart Little." VFX Supervision was next for Joan with Universal, Paramount, MGM, Franchise Pictures, New Line Pictures, and Lions Gate. While continuing active involvement with the Local Los Angeles ACM SIGGRAPH. Joan Co-Chaired the 1995 Electronic Theater and the Computer Animation Festival. She was Chair of SIGGRAPH's 1987 Film and Video Show in Anaheim, and was the AV Chair for SIGGRAPH 1989 in Boston. She is currently the Los Angeles SIGGRAPH Vice-Chair, and has produced over 110 meetings for LA SIGGRAPH. Joan Co-Produced "The Story of Computer Graphics."
