Description

Much like the evolution of cinema at the turn of the 20th Century, immersive media is exploding the frame and the way we experience the arts, storytelling, entertainment and more, including VR, AR, fulldome, LBE, the fabled metaverse and more. How do we make sense of all the new technologies or methodologies that are evolving under the banner of "immersive media?"

Add to that question the outcome of recent events we have been experiencing that have greatly increased our use of the Internet and shown the need for better immersive connectivity and content.

Zoom registration is required for this event.

The Handbook of Research on Global Impact and Roles of Immersive Media authors and editors, Jacki Morie and Kate McCallum, set out to help bring a bit more light to the topic by curating, editing and contributing to this newly published resource book. With chapters by 21 thought-leaders in the immersive space, from academic research to case studies, theories on storytelling, and visions for the future use of immersive tech, this book provides a great overview on the state of the industry.

On two panels guest authors/contributors will share their expertise and provide their insights on where they think the industry is going, new opportunities in immersive media, considerations for producing immersive experiences and how these powerful new platforms can provide Social Impact. This will be a rich multimedia experience including case studies and presentations.

IGI Publishing has also generously donated a free copy of the hardcover edition of the book ($212.00 value) to raffle off, and they are offering a 60% discount to all attendees and members of SIGGRAPH. Use the code IGI60 when ordering from IGI Publishing. The raffle winner will need to provide their mailing address.
