This ninety-minute screening contains all of the award winning films which are featured in this 2024 CAF Traveling Show.  John Kalaigian will Present.

The original show began in 1979 as ACM SIGGRAPH’s Film & Video Show. Then in 1984, the first Electronic Theater was presented. 

SIGGRAPH 2024 Computer Animation Festival’s Electronic Theater 2024 premiered on Monday, July 29 and 31, 2024.

The Electronic Theater is a qualifier for the Academy Awards, and is widely recognized for its groundbreaking contributions from artists, researchers, and innovators around the world.  Expand upon the democratization of creativity, and spotlight the ingenuity of diverse creators in this prestigious animation showcase.

Since 1995,  SIGGRAPH’s Best in Show winner is a qualifier for consideration for the Best Animated Short Film Academy Award.

The SIGGRAPH 2024 Best in Show winner was The Art of Weightlessness, and is qualified for the Animated Short Film category of the Academy Awards.

SIGGRAPH 2024 Electronic Theater Awards

Best in Show: “The Art of Weightlessness” (Moshe Mahler), recipient of the SIGGRAPH 2024 Electronic Theater Best in Show Award.  The SIGGRAPH Electronic Theater Best in Show is awarded to works that meet the eligibility requirements for the Oscars’ Best Animated Short category.  The Art of Weightlessness is an animated short film documentary that chronicles the evolution of Artist and Performer, Bill Shannon. Born with a degenerative hip condition, developed new ways to express himself through dance and skateboarding on crutches.

Best Student Project: “After Grandpa” (Juliette Michel, Swann Valenza, Florian Gomes Freitas, Axel Sence, and Victoria Leviaux), recipient of the SIGGRAPH 2024 Electronic Theater Best Student Project Award.  Haunted by the terrifying ghost of his Grandpa, Loup, a little boy obsessed with insects, will have to overcome his fear to discover why it came back.

Jury’s Choice:  “Patterns”  (Alex Glawion), recipient of the SIGGRAPH 2024 Electronic Theater Jury’s Choice Award!  Struck by a barrage of intrusive encounters on his weekly commute, a perceptive traveler struggles to uphold the positive mindset that wards against the ever-lurking grayness.

Audience Choice:  “LUKI & The Lights” (Toby Cochran), recipient of the SIGGRAPH 2024 Electronic Theater Audience Choice Award!  LUKi, a charming and upbeat robot known for living life to the fullest, is diagnosed with the life-altering disease ALS. He must choose how to face life going forward.
