Season 2013

The LA Chapter will be hosting a Social and MeetUp on Tuesday, 7 August in room 506 from 11:30-1:30 (during SIGGRAPH). Come meet you fellow members and chapter leaders and enjoy light refreshments on us.

A screening of the best of the SIGGRAPH 2012 Computer Animation Festival. This is an annual event for the chapter to showcase the best of the best from SIGGRAPH.

LA ACM SIGGRAPH presents a screening of Sony Pictures Animation's new "Hotel Transylvania"! RSVP for an evening on the lot in Culver City and watch their new masterpiece in the Ray Harryhausen Theater. Joining us for the introduction of the film will be a special guest artist! Be sure to RSVP by October 7th!

A panel discussion on various aspects of 3D printing and scanning. It will include demonstrations of various devices.

Concept Design and Production Design are essential to movies. This meeting will go over the process of modern concept design and production design by some of the talented artists in the industry. The artists will discuss and show the workflow of their art, and how the work they do has evolved.

What’s the outlook for careers across the digital media spectrum - from artists to technical directors to producers in games, broadcast, television, film and other media “yet to be invented.” Hear a panel of hiring managers and veteran recruiters share the inside scoop on where the jobs are….and where they aren’t.

3D Projection mapping is the merging of real and virtual worlds, by projecting 3D models onto their real-life counterparts. It is a profound paradigm shift in entertainment, advertising, and lighting. PaintScaping.com, one of the leaders in this emerging field, will present case studies, and discuss the creative process, behind-the-scenes technical challenges, and job opportunities.

LA ACM SIGGRAPH and Claremont in Entertainment and Media (The CEM) jointly present a screening of Disney's "Oz The Great and Powerful". You must RSVP at http://la.siggraph.org/rsvp/oz-great-and-powerful/ to attend this event.

Console games now use devices with motion capture and body recongnition. This event will look at the Kinect and its extended capabilities.

A panel discussion about how Universal and other theme parks start with familiar stories from television and film and combine computer graphics with motion, sound, wind, smell and other sensory stimuli to provide audiences with a fully immersive experience.

Bring your ideas for events for next year. We need as much input as possible to plan a great 2013/2014 season.
